A Guide to Stopping the Depression Spiral
This is a four-part guide to stopping the dreaded emotional spiral into Depression. There’s nothing to buy in this guide. However, you’ll have the choice to receive the Fearless Living Series, for free, if you raise your hand (more on that later).
Let’s define the Depression spiral. A Depression spiral is an emotional state that starts when a person fails at their chosen goal. Then, her inner critic shames her for the failure with words like “I can’t believe you did that again.” “You’ll never get it right.” This persistent internal lashing leads to overwhelm and hopelessness, so she must seek refuge through some form of escapism. Escapism can be food, alcohol, weed, TV, spending money, doom-scrolling, or some other powerful form of distraction from her inner critic and current problems. The relief from escaping feels so good, that to return to reality seems absurd. She begins to binge her mode of escape and becomes addicted to that sense of relief. However, binging eventually pushes the body and mind beyond its limits and she ends up worse off than before. And, she has done it: she “made” things even worse. The inner critic returns, scolding her yet again for what she’s done. “Not only does life suck, but it’s my fault it sucks.” Entering a deeper state of despair, she either continues down her escape of choice or finds something else to binge. Either way, her path spirals deeper and deeper into Depression. And if she tries to climb out again, it’s only a matter of time before she makes a mistake and the spiral begins anew.
This is a monstrous obstacle in anyone’s path. A seemingly unbeatable hydra.
The good news is, this guide will show you how to overcome such a hydra.
Before we get started, let’s talk about who this isn’t for:
This isn’t for those seeking a quick and easy hack to beat the Depression spiral.
This isn’t for someone who isn’t willing to be wrong. In other words, not interested in learning, trying new things, and ultimately, changing.
Most of all, this isn’t for someone who’s not ready to be all-in on their inner journey.
That’s who this isn’t for.
If you’re still here, let’s talk about who this is for.
But, before all that will make sense, I need to share with you where I am, how I got here, and what I’ve learned.
If you listen to what I tell you very closely, you’ll understand in 15 minutes what took me $110K in therapy/coaching, 9 years, and 7,000+ hours of relentless inner work to figure out.
Let’s get started.
We have a lot to cover. It’ll be helpful if I gave you a map so you know what’s to come.
I will make three promises to you that I will fulfill by the end of this guide.
The first promise is that I’ll tell you the truth about why 99% of people get stuck in the Depression Spiral.
Not the partial truth that’s just enough to get you to fail, then blame yourself for it.
The whole truth. You need this before anything else will make sense.
My second promise is about the skills you absolutely need to stop the Depression spiral.
Everyone that wants to live life as their true self needs to master these three non-negotiable skills.
And these skills don’t require you to become a hermit and deny yourself everything you love and enjoy.
My third promise is my favorite.
I’m going to reveal the singular root cause of the Depression Spiral (and all variations of suffering) and what you can do to vanquish it.
Implementing just one of these promises will be enough to severely diminish your Depression spiral. When all three are combined, kiss that spiral goodbye.
It’s time to talk about who this guide is for.
This is for someone who’s tired of hating the person in the mirror.
This is for someone who wants to start being real no matter who they’re with.
This is for someone who wants to be their family’s rock.
This is for someone who wants to live a life completely aligned with their heart.
Falling asleep to the sound of ocean waves through your patio screen door may light you up. Or helping others climb out of the pit you struggled with your whole life may be your thing.
If you don’t have a clear picture of what kind of lifestyle you want for yourself, it would be a profoundly great use of your time to sit somewhere alone with a pencil and paper and write it down.
Because whatever it is you want, it is absolutely, 100% possible.
It’s right here, in this very reality and lifetime, if you’re willing to embrace the work needed to get it.
In the rest of this guide, I’ll show you how.
All I ask is that you pay close attention because I’m leaving it all out on the court for you.
